Statutory Obligations

The Bhaktha Sahayak Division comes under Sri Sathya Sai Sadhana Trust, which is registered in the state of Karnataka as a religious trust. As per the objectives of the Trust, the Bhaktha Sahayak Division makes items of daily need available to the devotees and is not involved in any commercial or business promotion nor does it undertake any profit making activities. All the surpluses that come as a way of by-product are applied directly into units such as South Indian Canteen where food is highly subsidized. The Shopping Complex or Prasanthi General Stores is declared as a ‘Non-Dealer’ by a Government Order passed by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. Accordingly, the unit does not have to pay sales tax to the Govt. The Ashram is unique in many ways. One of the most striking of these is that a great majority of the people working in the units in the Ashram, particularly under the BSD are voluntary workers who volunteer their time, energy and all talents to provide humble service to the devotees of the Lord. While the voluntary staff is not paid and work free of cost in all the units, the employees hired temporarily or permanently are paid at least minimum wages and higher as per the rules of the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh. All the necessary financial records are maintained by the Trust, and are regularly audited, certified and published by a practicing Chartered Accountant.
