The Western Canteen popularly known as the Foreign Canteen was started in the year 2000. It serves western dishes to the devotees who come from overseas. Over the years, thousands of devotees from all parts of the world (from over 190 countries) have been thronging to Prasanthi Nilayam for spiritual upliftment. Like many they came in small and large numbers for Bhagawan Baba’s Darshan, Sparshan and Sambhashan. As the number of devotees who came to visit Prasanthi Nilayam increased Bhagawan opened a Western Canteen for theoverseas devotees as most of these devotees could not consume Indian cuisines.
Western Canteen servesfood for three sessions – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The food that is served to the devotees is first offered to Bhagawan, and thus is literally considered as Prasadam, and not just another meal. In accordance with the sentiment attached to the food, high respect and reverence is given to all matters pertaining to the food here.
Baba says – “Annam Brahma” which means, Food is God. Thus, there is constant effort towards ensuring that the food prepared is not wasted. The devotees are also constantly advised not to waste any food as it is considered a sin.
- Breakfast is served in two sessions between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and again continues from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. also known as the Brunch session. A variety of items such as toasts, sandwiches, porridge etc.,are available during this session. Click here to view the detailed breakfast menu.
- Lunch is served from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Different varieties of Rice and Curries, Pasta, etc. are available during this session. Click here to view the detailed lunch menu.

All the items are available at affordable prices. Most of the items are available for Rs. 5or multiples of Rs. 5 per serving/helping. The prices vary for special dishes and sweets. These prices are maintained in a manner such that they are affordable when compared to the hotels outside.
Baba says, – “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. Cleanliness is given utmost priority in the canteen. The dining area and the kitchen are sparkling examples for the care that the staff, the sevadal(Volunteers), and the overseas devotees who volunteer together to clean up the dining area and the kitchen at the end of each session.
All the utensils, including the plates and glasses which are used by the devotees are cleaned by the sevadal who come in rotation from different states to Prasanthi Nilayam to perform service.
While the gents sevadal ensure that the kitchen premises are clean and ready for cooking at the end of each session, the ladies sevadal lend their hand in cleaning the plates and glasses for the dining sessions.
All the works in the canteen from purchase of raw materials, cooking, serving to washing the dishes are managed by people who are rendering complete voluntary service.
Coupon (Voucher) Counter:
A coupon (voucher)counter is located within the Western Canteen premises. Devotees who wish to partake food should buy the vouchers first and enter the dining hall. The devotee will have to go in a line, take the items as in a buffet, and then pay for the items taken before consuming them by using the voucher. The coupon counter also operates in the same timings as the canteen.
Separate Dining Hall for Ladies and Gents:
As per Bhagawan’s instructions ladies and the gents are not allowed to move together in any of the places within the Ashram. Accordingly, there are separate dining halls for the ladies and gents.
